How To Create A Stay at Home Mom Routine


Creating a good and consistent stay at home mom routine will help you enjoy the more important things in life.  

Once I quit my job and became a full-time stay at home mom, I quickly realized that at the same time that I had a lot of time in my hands, I had no time in my hands.

I had to come up with a plan of attack. I had to organize my every day so that I am not wasting my time with unimportant things. However, I also did not want to miss any important milestone in Declan’s life.

Thank God, I came across the book Grace not Perfection and A Simplified Life by Emily Ley.

Here is how I created and kept my stay at home mom routine

Know your seasons

Why is this so important? You need to know what season of life you are in. Don’t expect to be able to do certain things that you were able to do in High School after having kids.

Time Management

My day consists of two blocks of time. When Declan is awake and when Declan is asleep (nap or nighttime).

I wrote a list of everything I need to do during my week. For example, read my Bible, clean house, exercise, work on the blog, take a shower, get ready for the day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, meal plan, laundry and so forth.

I then separate my list in two categories 1st things I don’t want to do when Declan is awake and 2nd things I don’t mind doing when Declan is awake.

The 1st list only consists of 3 things work on the blog ( I don’t want Declan to remember me much on my phone or computer), read my Bible and work out.

Tip: having a baby on a schedule will really help you with this. Because you know when and how long your baby’s nap will be. Also, you won’t have to be wondering if he will or not take a nap.

A little every day

Instead of trying to clean your house once a week. Clean a little every day.

Tip: use kid-friendly cleaning products like Better Life, so that you don’t have to worry about your little one being in the room with you as you clean.

Meal Plan

This is a very hard one for me, but this is what has worked best at my home. I came up with 15 – 20 meals that are easy and we all love it and wrote it down on my calendar for the month.

Also, every Tuesday is tacos and Thursdays are burgers. That makes my life easier and love it!

Finally, give yourself and your family some grace. Do not get so caught up in the cleanness of your house that you ended up missing the special moments with the ones that matter most.
