I am very blessed to work in a place where they take our health seriously. Not only they take it seriously, but they are also intentional about it. My boss has started this training; he has encouraged us to train for a 5k that will be in September.
If you have read any of my blog posts about my health, you already know something about me. I HATE running. It is not that I dislike, or don’t feel like it or get too tired. No, I hate running. I don’t know why but that is just how I feel about it.
However, despite the fact that I hate running I have always wondered if I would ever be able to run.
Let me tell you a little secret. I honestly believe that in my entire life I have NEVER run for more than 2 minutes. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone could take a look at my life and told me I have never run for more than a minute.
I have danced, played several kinds of sports, but nothing that required me to run for more than a minute without stopping.
So if you were planning on using the excuse that you have never run in your life, let me tell you, that is not a good excuse because I was on the same boat.
For the past 4 weeks I have been training for a 5k, and I am planning on running the whole thing. I am so excited because I am to the point where I am running without stopping for 7 minutes. For some, this might seem like it is not a huge accomplishment. For others, they probably think that this is embarrassing to share.
However, I bet that a lot of people reading this post can relate to me. So I want to tell you, you are not alone.
I have been doing 21-day fix, and one of the best quotes from Autumn Calabrese is “ Pain is temporary, but quitting lasts forever.” Unfortunately, I have quit more times than I would like to admit. However, I am determined that this time I will finish what I have started.
So I would like to invite you, yes you. The person that has never run in their lives. The person that has quitted too many times to count. The person that is semi-athletic. Or even the person that is athletic. Join me!!!!!
All you need is
A good pair of shoes
Shoes are extremely important. Let me tell you from experience (bad experience). Bad shoes will hurt you!
A place to run
No matter if it is outside or inside just find a place to run.
Your health should be the best motivator. Being able to give your best to your children, husband or family this is what I am talking about. Looking good will follow it though.
And if possible a friend
Having an accountability partner will help you keep motivated, and if you are competitive like me, it will drive you nuts if they accomplish and you don’t.
A little tip
If you get to a point where you feel like it is too hard for you to run that amount of time, DO NOT give up.
Slow down! It doesn’t matter if you start to jog, or even power walk as long as you are able to finish.
Don’t worry about your time today just worry about finishing each day and once you can do the whole 30 min, you can start focusing on your time.
