10 Baby Must Haves

The moment you announce your pregnancy you get tons of people coming to you to let you know what you should be buying for your baby. Some are great ideas, and some are plain waste of money. Some you have to buy the best and some you can get away with buying the cheapest one. But what do we really need when having a baby?

I would say that if you have a car seat, diaper/ wipes and some clothes you can succeed in parenting. However, parenting can be extremely hard and tiring, so I decided to make a list of the ten baby must-haves. Do not feel like you have to buy every single item. I think that these are great and practical products and I think most of them you can repurpose.

As you grow in your parenthood, you are going to find out things that work best for you and things that you didn’t really like. So this is my favorite must-haves. Let me know in the comments below what are your favorites must-haves and if there is anything on this list that you would do differently. I linked the products on the post, so it is easier for you to get to it.

Doona Car seat

I think every single mom I have come in contact with; I have recommended this car seat. Also, all the moms that I have recommended the car seat and did not buy it have regretted. I would say everything else on this list you can try to find a different one or a cheaper one, but not this item. My husband and I love it!!!

It is on the more expensive side of things. But if you really are interested in buying it, you should let your baby shower guests know and ask that they give money or gift card towards the stroller. Let me tell you it is definitely worth it.

A few reasons to why it is worth it is: you don’t have to take your baby out of the car seat to put in a stroller. If you have bought the car seat that connects to the stroller that is nice, but the advantage of this one is you don’t have to carry a bulky stroller on your trunk. So if you are going on a trip, you can still take as many bags as you need. Another one is the stroller moves so so so smoothly and it is so easy to go from a car seat to a stroller and back to a car seat.  This is definitely my favorite item on this list. I can’t praise this car seat enough.

I also use the stroller to get Declan around the house, since it is so easy to maneuver and the stroller is in a more sitting position than a regular stroller giving him a better view of where he is. If you really think about it by the time you buy a car seat and a stroller, it is not much difference in the price.

Rock and play

I will be honest with you I had a love-hate relationship with our rock and play. When I first bought it, I loved it because it helped Declan sleep faster and stay asleep longer. However, when it was time to transfer Declan to his crib I was so fearful because I didn’t want to lose any sleep over it and I had read many stories about how people took forever to get their baby to get used to the crib.

Thankfully I was able to transition Declan to sleep in his crib in just a couple of days and without losing any sleep. You can read about how I did it here. If you are looking for something a little fancier than the rock and play, you can go with a swing. They are fantastic, but a lot bulkier than the rock and play.

Rompers

One of the worse things about waking up in the middle of the night to feed your baby is changing diapers. If you are a mom you already know, if your not a mom yet you are going to find out. The fear of your baby fully waking up and wanting to stay awake is something terrifying. You don’t know what fear is if you haven’t experienced this yet. Ok, I might be overreacting a little.

However, if you want to make things easier for you in the middle of the night, you need rompers. They are very easy to change, and because it doesn’t require a lot of movement, the chances of your baby waking up are smaller.

If you buy rompers, you want to buy the ones that the zippers go all the way to the feet (don’t buy the ones that the zippers skip the legs they are harder to go in and out), or the ones that have buttons on the leg part. Those are nice because the only part that gets exposed is the legs making a little less likely of baby waking up. If you haven’t noticed yet, I like my sleep.

Windi the Gaspasser

If you have a colic baby or your baby is struggling to pass gas (which it is normal for newborns) this is for you. If you are wondering what to give for a baby shower, just give a bunch of this. Skip buying things that are not practical for new moms. Please buy what we need not things that are just cute.

This works quickly and efficiently. THIS REALLY WORKS! One of the worse feelings I experienced with Declan was when he was just a newborn, and he had a lot of trapped gas and was struggling. I tried giving him gripe water, doing exercises and even tho sometimes those things helped it was not always a guarantee, and it took a while to start working. This works right away.

Bouncer

When Declan turned about three months, he got so much more active and alert. He didn’t want to just lay there anymore, so the bouncer really helps because he can stay in a more sitting position and have a great view of everything around him.The best part is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on this. You can find cheap bouncers anywhere.

Swaddle

Do you want your baby to sleep through the night? I know I do. So get your baby a swaddle, lay back and enjoy!

Breast pump

So this might be TMI for some, so if you are a guy stop reading and get your wife a good pump. One of the worst things that can happen to a breastfeeding mom is to get your breasts engorged and not be able to do anything about it. So if this is not a feeling you want to get, get yourself a good pump.

Also, you want to be able to pump so that when you have date nights with your husband, your baby can just have a bottle. You might also want to get a hand pump so that if you go out for a long time, you can release some of the pressure that too much milk can build without having to carry your big pump around. Make sure that you check with your insurance to see if they cover the costs of a breast pump.

Baby monitor

I got a baby monitor, but after having Declan, I wish I would’ve spent less money on my baby monitor and had gotten a breathing monitor as well. The breathing monitor will give you peace of mind when you are asleep. I think one of the worst fears of every mom is that something will happen to their baby when we are sleeping.

So the breathing monitor will give you that peace of mind. They will warn you on your phone if your baby has not breathed or moved for a while. So you can sleep better knowing that if something happens, you will be woken up. However, it is also very nice to be able to watch and listen to your baby sleep when you are doing other things around the house.

I got the monitor that you can move the camera around on the monitor instead of having to change the camera around manually. If you get a baby monitor with this feature, it is more expensive. I would not substitute one for the other. I would spend my money differently so I could afford both.

Amazon Mom subscription

I have researched. Buying diapers and wipes are cheaper on Amazon. I love that you don’t have to go to the store to buy the diaper. Every month everything you have subscribed for will be delivered to your home. If you subscribe for five thingsor more, you get 20% off of your order, otherwise you will get 5%. I am just going to say it I LOVE AMAZON. I did my baby registry on Amazon as well as in Babies R Us. One of the best things about Amazon Registry is that at the end of your baby shower if you still need stuff for your baby, you can get two 15% off of your purchases. So you don’t have to feel like you have to make a massive investment all at once.

A good diaper bag

Remember you will be caring this thing with you for the next two years (at least)  make sure you get a good and comfortable one. Get a diaper bag that you will be able to fit a lot of things because if you think you have enough diapers, I would throw a few more in there just in case. I got a backpack, and I will say that it is my favorite. It is super comfortable, easy to carry and it doesn’t make your shoulders hurt like the ones you carry on the side.

Finally, I just want to say that I have used and loved all the products I have linked to this post. This post includes affiliated links which means if you buy any of the products related to this post I will receive a small commission at no added cost to you.
